Namaste.
With a studio located on my street, I lucked out on the yoga front. Yoga, I’ve discovered, is something I need for many reasons. As a dancer, it realigns me in the right ways and stretches me out just so. As a human, it gives me strength. Not just guns, but mental strength, resiliency and patience. It reminds me that sometimes- often- all you can do is try, try again. It encourages me when I am a fraction of a hair stronger than last time, when I can reach just a bit further, or hold Crow pose for three full seconds. I drink the Kool-Aid: yoga grounds me.
I like my studios to be crunchy, not stark and sterile like a sports club. I like to start and end with an “Ommmm” and learn about the chakras. I like the smell of sage, it relaxes me, and enjoy that when I get home I still smell of the studio, prolonging my relaxation. I like my teachers to allow each student to move with their own breath, rather than barking instructions to “inhale!” or “exhale!” but I also like them to give me the resources to push me to my personal limits of possibility. Even though I live in one of the biggest cities in the world, I like personal touches, like a free cup of hot tea after class shared with my fellow yogis.
That’s why I like Namaste Yoga and Tranquility Center.

Located in the heart of Williamsburg, my studio offers much more than just yoga classes and yoga teacher training, in the arena of body treatments such as massage, holistic health assessments, reiki, marma point therapy, facials and more.
All classes are open level, with some tailored toward beginners and other special classes thrown in (prenatal or restorative, for instance). For those who love yoga immensely, but aren’t diehard about a power flow vinyasa class, the open style is really enjoyable. Each class presents its own challenge and flow based on the teachers, all of whom I have enjoyed. It helps me to focus when I don’t know what is coming next because I am not anticipating, but rather focusing on my breath and reaching the deepest potential of the pose we’re in.
The price is right. Perfectly reasonable monthly prices, and unlimited packages that allow you to take advantage of Namaste’s steam rooms and body treatments at discounted prices. New students can take advantage of 2 weeks of unlimited classes for $25, an incredible price given that most studios can be upwards of $20 for an individual class! Some of Namaste’s classes are even offered by donation.
The Divine in me encourages the Divine in you to get your butt to Namaste. Ommmmmmmmmm.
